Discover Ruby will be available for boarding from 2:00 PM. Our journey starts in Passau, “The City of Three Rivers,” where the Danube is joined by the Inn (from the South) and the Ilz (from the North).

Shortly after boarding, we will enjoy an afternoon walking tour of Passau, where we will roam the charming streets and will be transported to another era with its wonderful examples of both Italian Baroque and Gothic architecture.  




We spend a charming morning sailing the Danube through the Bavarian countryside, arriving before lunch in Regensburg, one of the best-preserved medieval cities in Europe. In fact, its center is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Our walking tour of Regensburg will pass by a number of historic landmarks, including the Roman Ruins; the Regensburg Cathedral (dedicated to St. Peter), one of the best examples of Gothic architecture in Bavaria; the Old Salt Storage Houses; the oldest hot dog restaurant in Germany (and perhaps the oldest continuously open restaurant in the world), Regensburg Sausage Kitchen; the famous astronomer Johannes Kepler’s House and the historic Roman Bridge – an architectural wonder from the 12th century, spanning 310m long and featuring 16 arches.




After departing Regensburg, Discover Ruby leaves the Danube in Kelheim, where we enter the Rhine-Main-Danube Canal. This morning, we will enjoy scenic cruising along the Canal, arriving early afternoon in Nuremburg.

Once a free imperial city, today Nuremberg is the second largest city in Bavaria. Today, our guide will show us the city’s major sites and highlights, from its medieval beginnings to present day.  During our panoramic city tour, we will see the Palace of Justice, the venue of the famous Nuremberg Trials; the Nazi Party Rally Grounds and the Zeppelinfield.


After a short coach ride, we will discover the Nuremberg Castle – a prime symbol of the power and significance of the Holy Roman Empire in Germany.


Our final stop will be at the Old Market Square, where you can enjoy a stroll through the shops before we return to the ship for dinner.




This morning, we will arrive in Bamberg, a 9th-century Imperial city on the River Main, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

After breakfast onboard, we will travel into the historic center of Bamberg, where we will be amazed by the magical atmosphere of the inspiring Old Town area.


Our tour takes us to impressive sights such as the Imperial Cathedral and The Old Archbishop’s Residence; The New Residence Palace and its Rose Garden; the iconic Old Town Hall; and the former fishing pier that is now Bamberg’s “Little Venice” area. We will also enjoy the world-famous smoked beer of Bamberg at a local Beer Garden, before returning to our ship for dinner.




Leaving Bamberg, we exit the Rhein-Main-Danube Canal and enter the Main River proper. Following a leisurely morning along the Main, Discover Ruby docks in early afternoon at the quaint city of Würzburg, in the heart of the Franconian Wine Region.

Today in Würzburg, we will witness some of the best examples of Baroque and Rococo architecture Europe has to offer. After lunch, we will depart on our afternoon tour with a visit to the rzburg Bishop’s Residence Museum.  This museum, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site, is one of the most important architectural masterpieces of the German Baroque style with its magnificent Imperial Hall, frescoes and especially its unique staircase.


We continue our tour in the old town center, where we will see the Marketplace, Maria Chapel, Town Hall and the Old Main Bridge, with its perfect panoramic view of the Marienberg Fortress and the local vineyards. After enjoying some free time along the cobbled streets, we will return to the ship for a delicious glass of Bavarian wine before dinner.




This morning, our ship will dock briefly at the city of Wertheim, a short technical stop for those who start their excursion here. Discover Ruby will then sail for Miltenberg, docking briefly to allow excursion guests to rejoin our ship, before continuing on our journey along the Main.

Both Wertheim and Miltenberg are among the most famous, historical settlements on the Main River. Fortunately, saved from the ravage of WWII, these iconic towns feature beautiful rural architecture and half-timbered traditional houses.


After an early breakfast, we will start our tour in Wertheim.  A special highlight of our walking tour will be the chance to visit a local pretzel bakery and sample this classic German treat! 


Afterwards, a short drive takes us to Miltenberg, known as “the pearl of the Main River,” where we will see its famed “crooked houses” plus the venerable Gasthaus Zum Riesen, Germany’s oldest “royal inn” dating to 1411.  Enjoy the medieval streets and shops, before meeting back up with our ship in Miltenberg for lunch.




Overnight, Discover Ruby enters the Rhine at Mainz. This morning, the ship docks for a morning visit to Rüdesheim, a charming winemaking town along the river.


Discover Ruby departs Rüdesheim at 2:30 PM. This afternoon, enjoy scenic cruising through the beautiful and romantic Rhine Gorge, passing through a stretch recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site. We arrive at our destination for this evening, Koblenz, just before dinner.

After a scenic ride through the local vineyards, the unique Winzerexpress mini train will transfer us to the top of the hills ­– a short journey to the one-of-a-kind Siegfried’s Mechanical Music Museum.  Here we will be delighted by the sounds of vintage, self-playing old-world German instruments reminiscent of Alice’s Wonderland.


Following our pleasant visit to the museum, we will stroll through the colorful city center, with the opportunity to taste some of the local wines as well as the famous Rüdesheimer Coffee.

While our beautiful ship repositions upstream for Koblenz, we will travel overland for a wonderful wine tasting experience at one of the best local wine producers of the area, sampling the famed Rieslings and other varietals this region is known for.


After wine tasting, we will explore the city of Koblenz, situated at the merger of the Rhine and Moselle Rivers, representing the longest branch of the Rhine.  During our short walking tour, we will visit Emperor Kaiser Wilhelm’s Memorial located at the precise confluence point called the German Corner.  We will have free time to discover the peaceful streets of the town, then rejoin our ship (now docked in Koblenz) for dinner.




Today, Discover Ruby enjoys a morning call in beautiful and historic Cologne, one of Germany’s largest cities and a cultural center.


Discover Ruby departs Cologne at 1:30 PM.  After departure, enjoy a leisurely afternoon cruising the Rhine, docking briefly in Düsseldorf for a technical stop to allow excursion guests to return to the ship. Following this short call, Scenic Ruby continues along the Rhine enroute to Amsterdam.

After breakfast, we will begin our discovery in Cologne, famous for its gilded medieval relics and sweeping river views.  As the highlight of our panoramic tour, we will tour the famous Cologne Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with its 157m-high twin spires, impressive gothic architecture, and colorful glass windows.


After enjoying lunch onboard the ship, we board our motorcoach for a scenic drive to Düsseldorf, the capital of the North Rhine & Westphalia State, and one of the most important fashion capitals in the world.  Here, we will witness the transformation of what once was a historic port town, now a bustling new commerce center known as Media Hafen. We will be enveloped in the city’s luxury and grandeur while we stroll the stylish shopping streets such as Kö Strasse, passing by the glamorous Opera House.


Our stroll will continue onwards through the pedestrian streets of the Old City, where quaint cafes, restaurants and bustling bars serve as the perfect backdrop.   We will enjoy free time here, before rejoining the ship for our final dinner onboard.

After a final breakfast onboard, our cruise has concluded, and we say goodbye to Discover Ruby. For those who have opted for post-cruise extensions, convenient transfers from the pier to the airport have been arranged.

We will start the day by visiting the Jewish Quarter, where the most famous of the Bohemian writers Franz Kafka left his mark.  Along the way, our guide will introduce you to many of the classic sights of Prague.

We will see the Rudolfinum concert hall and walk the historic Malá Strana district, then cross the Charles Bridge and visit Old Town Square, featuring the Jan Hus monument, the Old Town Hall (with its famous astronomical clock), and the Church of Our Lady of Týn. Our tour will also show us the National Museum and Wenceslas Square.

Our tour finishes on Parizska Street, where you will have time for some shopping and lunch (at your own expense). Enjoy the rest of the day and evening at your leisure.

After breakfast at the hotel, we will depart for the “spa city” of Karlovy Vary, located 2 hours west of Prague.  Founded by Carlos IV in 1358, this town is now one of the most famous spa cities of the world.

Our guided walking tour, you will learn how its mineral hot springs have aided the health of famous personalities through the centuries, including Goethe and Tsar Peter the Great.  Karlovy Vary is also famous for manufacture of Moser crystal, Carlsbad porcelain and the herbal liquor Becherovka.

Enjoy some free time in Karlovy Vary before returning to Prague, with a visit to historic Prague Castle. Today’s tour also includes visits to the Cathedral of St. Vitus, the Old Royal Palace, the Basilica of San Jorge and the “Golden Lane.”  We will return to the hotel in late afternoon, leaving you free to enjoy dinner on your own, or to relax and prepare for tomorrow’s travels.

After breakfast, we will enjoy a scenic drive to the city of Rotterdam, known for its contemporary architecture. One of the world’s great, most historic ports, Rotterdam has been one of the benchmarks for European trade for centuries.


Our tour continues to Delft, home of the famous blue porcelain as well as the renowned Dutch Master painter Vermeer. We will visit De Delftse Pauw, producer of the famous porcelain; the New Church of Delft, traditional burial place of the House of Orange, Holland’s royal family; and beautiful Old Town Delft.


We then travel to The Hague, where the Dutch Parliament resides. Our tour includes the Peace Palace, home of the International Court of Justice; the stunning Mauritshuis Royal Picture Gallery; and the quaint Madurodam, a park that recreates famous Dutch landmarks and cities in miniature. Our final stop will be The Hague’s fishing port of Scheveningen, located along the North Sea, before we return to our hotel in Amsterdam.

Your morning is free to continue discovering Amsterdam at your leisure, with a prearranged transfer from your hotel to our ship in early afternoon.
